Go away for a year: Artcorps

Attention actors, painters, musicians, sculptors, dancers and all types of
creative artists!
(Please forward widely.)

Join ArtCorps and volunteer your creative talents to strengthen sustainable development in Central America in 2010. Through community arts projects,
artists educate and inspire people to participate actively in improving the
environmental, health, and social conditions in their communities. Every ArtCorps artist works directly with a local non-governmental organization that is an expert in its field. Artists strengthen dialogue between community members and the organization, improve community education and empower local leadership.

Artists will:
• Work as a volunteer and live in his or her host community from January
2010 through December 2010. Artists have the option to extend their stay for a second year if agreed upon by the host organization.
• Receive airfare, room and board, medical insurance and a small personal stipend.
• Receive training and technical assistance from ArtCorps staff in the
region in order to integrate ArtCorps methodology into the host
organization.
• Uphold the mission and values of ArtCorps as the sole ArtCorps artist in the host community.
• Communicate fluently in Spanish.

Apply now for opportunities in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras! For info
and initial application, visit http://www.artcorp.org/artist_placements.html.
Full applications must be received by June 26, 2009. Contact Marta at
marta.oslin@artcorp.orp or +1 978-927-2404 x4 for more information.

Untitled

Legally, I can't say anything about that painting behind the three dancers in the center square. So, here's me 'not saying anything.'

Fake Shore Drive mixtape

Fake Shore Drive is a comeup for the local hip hop scene, offering plenty of breaking underground news and exclusive videos downloads. Add it to your RSS feeder for your own sake. The site's first official mixtape has dropped and is available free for download now. True Chi-heads will appreciate the "There but for the grace of God" piano sample on "Youngest In Charge" by Bump J, produced by Twilite Tone. And my throat choked up at 1:00 on "Kings Theme Music" by Pugs. He says, "Afro on the shirt..."

Mind playin tricks on 'em

I'm currently working on a legacy mural with 8th grade students at
Spry Elementary. We are tracing a 4-color index separation file
straight from Photoshop. You'd think it would be easy enough, but
these students are drawing lines that don't exist; except in their
minds. They're drawing in cartoonish lips and completely circular eye
balls, because that's what lips an eyes are "supposed" to look like,
right?

Kinda frustrating, kinda refreshing.
...mostly frustrating though.
